About Sarah
Sarah Holl' s career as an artist is
characterized by versatility, imagination and an innovative legacy. As
a professional artist working in both clay and paint for over 20
years, Sarah's daily life revolves around art making and community
involvement within the arts. This combination of dedication and
originality has allowed Sarah to carve an artistic path for herself
marked by challenge and change, two defining ingredients for a
successful career in the arts.
Sarah is a principal in the family owned Scargo Pottery & Art
Gallery in Dennis, Massachusetts, founded by her father, Harry Holl in
1952. In addition to regularly producing tile and relief works in
clay, Sarah has curated numerous shows of works by other artists and
makes an integral contribution to the running of the gallery. Sarah is
frequently commissioned to produce ceramic installation tile pieces for
clients throughout New England and beyond. She most recently has
completed large scale custom tile installations for Cape Cod Hospital
and Children's Hospital, Boston.
Sarah's primary passion is painting and when not at Scargo, she
works out of her new studio and teaching space Art Space, part of the
Shirley Blair Flynn Center for the Creative Arts, located at 46 Pearl
Street off Main Street in Hyannis, MA. Sarah was asked to spearhead an
arts revitalization project in downtown Hyannis, and her studio is one
of the many new projects in which she will be involved as a liaison
between the arts community and the town of Barnstable. Her figure
drawing and still life classes have already gained great popularity
and, when not teaching, she is hard at work on her own paintings and
collages. She looks forward to her expanding role in this new
burgeoning artists colony, including planning show and events with
other artists with the goal of establishing a dynamic relationship
between the arts and the surrounding community.
In addition to working at Scargo Pottery and her studio on a daily
basis, Sarah has had solo shows of her paintings at various galleries,
including the Cape Cod Museum of Art, the Cove Gallery in Wellfleet,
the Cotuit Center for the Arts and the Cahoon Museum in Cotuit. She
has had in-depth articles written about her work in numerous
publications, including Cape Cod Life magazine and Cape Arts Review, as
well as features on the New England news magazine program Chronicle.
Sarah also took on the role of executive producer in the making of "A
Centered Universe", a documentary film made about her father Harry
Holl. Sarah has also taught figure drawing at Cape Cod Community
College and the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis. Sarah is also asked
to contribute pieces to countless charities and auctions on an annual
basis, a request she is happy to fulfill as it speaks to her continuing
effort to not only make art, but also participate as much as possible
in the local arts community.
